POTTER’S PASTURE

For more than three decades, Potter’s Pasture has given Nebraskans something rare: public access to an extensive, privately owned trail system created for natural-surface, human-powered recreation.

Located near Jeffrey Reservoir south of Brady, the property encompasses approximately 1,200 acres of hills, canyons, native grasslands, and wooded corridors. Its trail network ranges from open routes suitable for children and beginning riders to demanding singletrack for experienced athletes. Two trailheads and camping areas have helped make Potter’s a true outdoor destination.

A NEBRASKA WORTH RESTORING

The Cottonwood Fire directly hit Potter’s Pasture in March 2026. Firsthand reports from the property documented damaged fences, burned and weakened trees, and the loss of a campground storage building. Remarkably, no one was injured—a result credited to volunteer firefighters and departments responding from across Nebraska.

1,200 Acres, One Vision: Public Land for All

Together, we can honor Steve Potter’s intent, carry forward three decades of volunteer stewardship, and ensure that this remarkable Nebraska landscape—its trails, native grasslands, sunsets, dark skies, and sense of possibility—remains open, resilient, and cared for forever.

A Legacy of Open Land

Steve Potter envisioned a place where people could ride, hike, camp, and explore without repeatedly seeking permission from landowners. He assembled adjoining parcels into approximately 1,200 acres and opened the property for public recreation.

Several years before his death in 2019, Steve placed Potter's Pasture into a trust — an arrangement that reflected his desire to preserve both the property and the recreational community that had formed around it.

For roughly 30 years, the Potter's Pasture Bike & Recreation Club, along with local riders and volunteers, has carried that vision forward: building and maintaining trails, developing campgrounds, improving access roads, hosting events, and cultivating a culture grounded in generosity and stewardship.

Every contribution will build upon work already underway. It will help protect a landscape, restore a recreation destination, strengthen community health, support workforce competitiveness, and generate sustainable economic activity across west-central Nebraska.

We invite you to help secure Potter’s Pasture, restore its trails, and protect its spirit of human-powered exploration. Together, we can honor Steve Potter’s intent, carry forward three decades of volunteer stewardship, and ensure that this remarkable Nebraska landscape—its trails, native grasslands, sunsets, dark skies, and sense of possibility—remains open, resilient, and cared for forever.
